Maurice Sendak. Where the Wild Things Are. [New York]: Harper & Row, 1963. First edition, second printing, in the second issue dust jacket, with the Caldecott Medal on the front panel and reviews on the flaps. Inscribed by Sendak on the half-title, "Nov. '65 / For Martha Davis / Maurice Sendak."
Oblong quarto. [40] pages. Gray cloth-backed pictorial boards, colored endpapers; original illustrated dust jacket.
Condition: Moderate edgewear, corners a touch bumped and rubbed, head and tail pushed, some staining to bottom of upper board. Page edges toned, intermittent thumbing. Dust jacket clipped ($3.50); toned, faintly soiled, staining to bottom of front panel and spine, sunned, light chipping with few losses, some splitting to upper spine fold affecting publisher by-line and title, a few closed tears to rear panel. Very good book in a very good dust jacket.
