A Nazca / Huari Slit-Tapestry Border of a Mantle
Peru, c. 100 - 700 AD

A long panel, probably designed to be part of a larger garment. Featuring a row of standing human figures in profile, with large heads and large eye, each wearing headbands and a tunic. Each grasping with their right hand a large staff at front that rises and extends over their heads. Their left arm and hand is held to their side. Unidentifiable objects at their back. No two scenes here are alike, the colors vary from each to each, and they are alternately disposed up and down but still facing the same direction forward. A tapestry weave in cotton and camelid wool. In very good condition, mounted in an acrylic box.
