A Teotihuacan Standing Figure
Valley of Mexico, c. 100-500 AD

Heavy thick speckled white stone in form of a standing figure with large mask-like head, the eye sockets pecked to hold inlay (now missing). The figure wears layers of garments including a skirt and tunic with a strap and apron at front. The face is sensitively carved with fleshy nose and lips, the mouth open as though vocalizing. In very good condition aside from a watery brown stain on the back and proper left side of the figure, most like a result of long term exposure to a liquid with a high iron oxide content.
