A Seated Male Figure...
Description
A Seated Male FigureCosta Rica, Atlantic Watershed, c. 300-800 AD
Carved from light brown volcanic stone, the figure is shown seated with hands resting on the knees, one leg bent beneath him. The modeling is naturalistic, with a muscular torso and exposed genitalia. The head is distinguished by a plaited hairstyle, rendered in raised bands. The eyes are narrowed, suggesting an inward, interior state rather than outward engagement. The surface is lightly pitted from weathering, consistent with age. A naturalistic example, notable for its composure and inward presence. In very good condition; intact, with weathered surface.
