A Rare Mezcala Female Figure...
Description
A Rare Mezcala Female FigureMexico, c. 500-100 BC
Carved from a veined dark green stone with a soft, satiny finish, the surface marked by natural streaks that enhance the figure's visual interest. The large head is defined by wide oval eye sockets and a raised triangular nose and mouth area. The torso is slender, with firm, rounded breasts, the arms held close to the body, hands to abdomen. Long legs extend below, one deficient beneath the knee, likely broken in antiquity. The overall form is elongated yet balanced. The veining of the stone adds a distinct visual character to the piece. In very good condition; lower proper left leg deficient, not a recent break.
