A Mezcala Head Pendant...
Description
A Mezcala Head PendantMexico, c. 500-100 BC
Carved from speckled green and white jadeite with tiny mica inclusions, the pendant is defined by boldly cut features and strong linear design. Large eye sockets and raised brows frame a sharply articulated triangular nose and mouth section. A lateral crest rises across the crown and is pierced twice for suspension. The fine polish and lively stone give the piece a particularly attractive, wearable quality. A compact sculpture with an air of calm authority. Custom metal stand. In excellent condition; with some mineral deposits in the grooves.
