A Maya Eccentric Flint...
Description
A Maya Eccentric FlintMesoamerica, c. 600-900 AD
Worked from brown hardstone and carefully flaked along all edges to a sharp cutting profile, this thin, lightweight blade belongs to the class of ritual blades known as eccentric flints, valued for their complex and deliberately non-standard forms. The shape is highly specialized, with two projecting points at one end, paired barbs at the center, and a short handle tapering to a point at the other. The silhouette is at once blade-like and overtly ceremonial, animated by the precision of the knapping and the balance of its outline. A striking example of Maya lithic artistry, where technical control and ritual form are closely joined. Custom metal stand. In very good condition.
Length: 8 ¼ inches
Estimate: $800 - $1,200.
