A Chimu Staff Top
Peru, circa 1100-1400 AD

Bone inlaid with blue-green stone and shell. Depicts a lower arm and hand with clenched fist, index finger slightly raised above the others. Engraved all over in horizontal bands with geometric designs, animals, insects, and a standing warrior at the thumb area. Maces engraved on the tops of the fingers. In very good condition, appropriate for its age, origin , and mediums; several small stone or shell bits missing.
