An Impressive Large Tairona Gold Eagle Pendant
Colombia, c. 1000 - 1500 AD

Thin cast tumbaga gold alloy in traditional eagle form with two supplemental bird heads emanating from under its wings. Unusual staples along proper right side and bottom of tail, another at shoulder of proper left wing. Two small perforations at shoulders of wings and a loop at back of head for attachment or suspension. In good condition, surface oxidized and darkened. Despite the discoloration, this large, grand pendant has majesty and an authoritative presence.
