A Quimbaya Gold Figural Pendant
Colombia, circa 600-900 AD

A stylized human with a reptile like body, human legs in a flexed position, broad bird-like tail, and a face surmounted with a feather headdress, large nose ornament, spiral earrings. Cast and hammered gold alloy (tumbaga) with the appendages soldered on with more gold. A loop on back for suspension. In very good condition, the tail has a repaired break at proper left side.
