A Large Veraguas Gold Eagle Pendant
Panama, c. 700-1000 AD

Finely wrought gold alloy (tumbaga) that has been cast, hammered, and soldered to create a large eagle pendant. The domed body has talons, the wings have a band of raised roundels on the underside. Around the neck is a wide choker or necklace composed of seven narrow rings with a zigzag incision across them. The head has a long curved beak, concave eyes, and tufted ears with a loop beneath. A suspension loop at back. This is one of the largest ancient gold eagle pendants we have seen.
