A Pregnant Colima Dog
West Mexico, c. 250 BC - 250 AD

Hollow earthenware with burnished red-brown slip on the body and brown on the head. Its plump wide body supported by short legs. Perked ears, open mouth and perforated nostrils. The belly nearly touches the ground, indicating pregnancy. In very good, intact condition. Scattered black manganese deposits, some linear; small pits in the burnished surface on the body; the head with smoke clouds from firing and spotted surface erosion on the proper left side.
