Description

A Nazca Polychrome Bridge-Spout Vessel
Peru, c. 400-600 AD

A large "Proliferous Nazca" bridge-spout vessel in carinated form, the lower half painted with two profile heads facing up wearing a stack of three connected supernatural monster heads. The upper half with two forward facing "Anthropomorphic Mythical Beings" with large heads and disproportionate small legs below and equally small arms and hands displaced way above the head atop the elaborate headdress. In very good condition aside from the paint scraped off along the bottom edge, minor chips to rims of spouts; possible restoration to the two spouts.

Provenance:
Antiquities Salesroom at Artemis, Erie, CO
The estate of Harold Medill Sarkisian (1909-1993), Denver, CO
Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Teresa M. Dodge dated 2/1/2013.

Height: 9 inches

More Information: Blacklight seems to show the two spouts are most if not entirely restored. But hard to tell. The paints do not come off with the application of acetone. Essentially in very good condition, aside from the possible restoration of the spouts.
