A Mixtec Head
Oaxaca/Puebla, Mexico, c. 1200 - 1400 AD

Tan and orange grainy earthenware in form of a head wearing large earspools, an elaborate headdress with lateral crest flanked by two cups and side flanges with raised bumps. The nose suspends a triangular pendant over the open mouth. In very good condition, some restoration to the earspools, gouges to the left jaw and cheek.
