A Maya Polychrome Bowl
Guatemala or Mexico, Late Classic Period, c. 600 - 800 AD

Beautifully crafted ceramic with red, orange and black paints. Unique imagery of three seated dogs or coyotes, two with their front legs bound, the third crouching forward with one paw and head raised as though howling. Two dog-leg glyph bands and a bird head with a foliated cross emanation between them. A band of pseudo-glyphs along the upper rim. In very good, intact condition, minor scratches all over and the bottom scuffed.
