A Large Tlatilco Female Figure
Central Mexico, c. 1200-900 BC

Hollow earthenware with remains of a pinkish red cinnabar paint on the body and part of the face. She stands with short arms held out to sides, her large head with finely modeled facial features, large holes in the ear lobes, rows of punctures at the top of the head. In good, intact condition, however the upper section and proper right side of the head are corroded from being exposed to water or other elements in an underground context for millennia.
