A Large Paracas Urn
Peru, 800 - 100 BC

The egg-shaped ceramic with the upper third etched and subtly painted in brown and tan resin pigments in a wide band of geometric motifs, two human visages are modeled on sides with rays emanating from sides. The faces are mask-like with narrow eyes, raised nose, smiling mouth, raised ears, and a slight bulge for a chin. Each face has the distinctive "tear" lines zigzagging from under each eye. In good condition, repaired from approximately nine large parts, with restoration over the break lines.

Accompanied by a copy of a thermoluminescence test from a laboratory in Germany, stating this is 2200 years old (+/- 20%).
