A Large Colima Parrot
West Mexico, circa 250 BC - 250 AD

Hollow earthenware with burnished tomato-red slip, with an additional burnished cream-colored slip over the eyes and beak. In a naturalistic pose, standing on wide-spread feet, the head cocked slightly to the proper right. It has an appealing impact of a vital presence, and is particularly large for a Colima ceramic parrot. In very good, intact condition, no apparent repairs or restorations.
