A Colima Mother and Child
West Mexico, c. 250 BC - 250 AD

Solid earthenware a tan to orange color, scattered deposits of black manganese all over. The broad-shouldered mother seated with knees slightly raised and thighs supporting an infant on a cradle with protective arch over the head. A fine and large example of the type. Loss to top of proper left foot, the whole slightly soiled, otherwise the sculpture appears to be in very good, intact condition.
