A Calima (Malagana) Small Bird Effigy Vessel, alcarraza
Colombia, 100 BC - 500 AD

Earthenware with contrasting textures: the head and body are burnished cream-colored slip, while the wings and tail, eyes and beak, have linear incisions and are an unburnished tan color. Rounded head, bulbous legs and wings held closely at its sides. This type of vessel with two spouts and a bridge handle is known as an alcarraza. Appears to be in very good, intact condition, no visible repairs or restorations.
