DescriptionA Rare Diquis Gold Stingray Pendant
Costa Rica, c. 700-1100 AD
This large casting of a rarely encountered image of a stingray takes advantage of the wide wings to display the glittering gold surface to best advantage. The back has two graduated rows of openwork spirals, the head with circular raised eyes, the mouth open showing teeth flanked by barbels, the tail with two barbs each side. Two loops on back for suspension. In excellent condition; high content gold alloy (tumbaga).
