DescriptionA Large Chancay Mantle
Peru, c. 1000 – 1460 AD
Woven and embroidered camelid wool and cotton woven in two panels joined down middle. The main body composed of intersecting diagonal lines of white and black squares interrupted by red squares to create a stepped diamond enclosing a stepped cross in black and white. The fringed border at one end contains linear, abstract faces formed of interlocking triangles. In good condition, appropriate for age, origin, and mediums. Mounted to linen and enclosed in a Plexiglas box.
