RICHARD PRINCE (American, b. 1949)
The Catcher in the Rye, 2011
Hardcover book with dust jacket, shrinkwrapped as issued
    8-1/8 x 5-5/8 inches (20.6 x 14.3 cm)
From the edition of 500 (though purportedly the edition was never completed)
Initialed on the rear panel of the dust jacket
Published by American Place, New York

This sculpture by Richard Prince is a word-for-word appropriation of Salinger's coming-of-age classic with only the author's name (and the previously published books list) replaced in every instance that it appears. The rear panel of the dust jacket is a cream-colored blank (as Salinger demanded that his photo be removed after the first issue) and is initialed by the artist here.

    Condition Report*:

Still shrinkwrapped, as issued. Very minor bumping to bottom edge of boards and jacket. Small bumped area to rear board at top near gutter with similar wear to jacket. Still, a fine copy and in almost new condition.
