The iconic form of the perfectly symmetrical heart has been a part of Jim Dine's vocabulary since the mid-1960s. It has appeared prominently in his paintings, drawings and prints as well as in his sculptures. Jim Dine once said that hearts function as a, "sign that one can care, that there is a constant presence of feeling". Dine's touch is evident in this work, with imprints of his hand frequently appearing on his sculptures. In this work, Dine demonstrates his ability to transform the superficial interest in objects into a language of expression and emotion.

    Condition Report*:

Approx. 15 small, discrete holes created in the metal to prevent corrosion due to rain water/weathering; one heart appears to have lost several inches of its green patina layer, the surface being slightly browner (possibly associated with graffiti removal campaign); several light green surface spots or areas of superficial bronze corrosion products, mostly visible under the rocks; one very small pit of active corrosion on one heart, which can be addressed with minimal treatment; wax protective coating has whitened and is slightly flaking.
