    Feldman and Schellmann, IV.52A-68A

This was copy presented to Farnham Lefferts, who was in charge of the stationery department at Tiffany & Co. during the late 1950s, and eventually became president of the firm. He was introduced to Warhol by Bettina Ballard, a former editor of Vogue, with a proposal for a Warhol-designed Christmas card. Lefferts agreed to give Warhol a chance, which resulted in the design of a Christmas tree made of butterflies in non-traditional Christmas colors (pinks and yellows). Based on the success of that card, Warhol went on to create more designs for Tiffany, and gave this copy of the book to Lefferts in gratitude for their continuing collaboration. This copy was acquired directly from Lefferts; it has not previously been offered commercially. Lefferts remained at Tiffany & Co. for many years and served as president of the company from 1967-73.

    Condition Report*:

Covers with some wear, soiling, and toning. Affixed cover illustration has moderate staining, toning, and discoloration; handcoloring is faded. Light toning and some staining to edges of interior pages. Minor edgewear with a few small tears. Colors still bright throughout. Last four pages with dampstaining (beginning at last blank page) and some wrinkling and abraded versos to pages (not affecting plates). "One blue pussy" plate has some offsetting due to moisture and moderate wrinkling. Some light folds and handling creases. Overall, good condition for this early bound signed volume of Warhol, rarely found intact.
