Untitled (MBFC5), 2014
Acrylic on paper
20 x 16 inches (50.8 x 40.6 cm)
The work of Brooklyn-based artist, Brian Donnelly, who makes his art under the moniker "KAWS," was the subject of the first FOCUS exhibition of the 2011-2012 season. The Director's Council voted for his painting Where the End Starts, 2011, to become part of the Museum's permanent collection. KAWS's large-scale sculpture Companion (Passing Through), 2010, was also on view at the Modern from 2012 to 2013.
KAWS's vast body of work comprises graffiti (with which he initiated his career), sketches, drawings, murals, paintings, and sculpture, as well as product design, including limited-edition toys and high-end streetwear. For the Director's Council auction, KAWS presents the acrylic on paper Untitled, 2014, which features a tightly cropped drawing of the Peanuts character Snoopy with KAWS's signature X-ed out eyes.
