Dutch artist Peter Schuyff became deeply associated with the painting explosion in New York as part of the Neo-Geo group of artists. He always had a knack for the visual hook, and has been long associated with the clean geometric graffiti he applies over "found" paintings and drawings, and over reproductions of famous paintings by Vermeer, Van Gogh, and in the case of this work in the Pillsbury collection, the American painter Raphaelle Peale. Here, Schuyff changes Peale's famous trompe l'oeil titillation, After the Bath, into something that looks more like an American teenager dressing herself behind a great big shower curtain printed with the American flag. Speaking to Matthew Rose in 2009 about his appropriations, Schuyff said, "Whether or not it's vandalism is not yes or no. I hope there's enough vandalism to give just a little bite. They are definitely motivated by affection, but not always respect."

    Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.
