Ted Pillsbury discovered the work New York artist, Diana Cooper, through art consultant, Ruth Kaufmann. Her works on every scale combine drawing, painting and sculpture into distinctively architectonic imagery. "Cooper's approach to material, form and content originated with her incessant habit of doodling and an obsessive urge to multiply and repeat forms," Lilly Wei noted in her April 2008 article on Cooper's work for Art in America entitled "Line Analysis." "She wants both to create chaos and to control it in what amounts to a drawn-out act of sensuality, only partly sublimated, that is also one of cognition...These works suggest systems and circuits of all kinds...that have been abstracted and schematized, but are based on real sources and real configurations of data." Maps, circuit boards, architectural renderings, and machine schematics all seem to be invoked in works such as Emerald City.
Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500.
