New Wailuku Bay, 2012
Acrylic on canvas
72 x 63 inches (182.9 x 160.0 cm)
Erik Parker's FOCUS exhibition was in the winter of 2010-2011. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, but raised in Texas, Parker now lives in New York. The artist has described his work as "fragmented samples of our culture," and he is known for his figurative paintings of disembodied, twisted heads that ooze vivid color and recede into themselves as much as they explode outwardly into the space around them.
More recently, Parker has been working on reinterpretations of still lifes. For the Director's Council auction, Parker presents the painting New Wailuku Bay, 2012. The work depicts a traditional interior domestic scene of a tabletop floral arrangement in front of an open window, but in Parker's signature psychedelic style. The painting was featured recently in an article on the Huffington Post.
