Vivian Maier's legendary status as "mysterious nanny photographer" tends to flatten the complexity and thoughtful artistry to be found in her body of work. But, it's a significant part of her story, and proven inspiring for many who find the tension between the demands of work and the call to creativity hard to resolve. This image, with its true candid nature capturing her at work is testament to how she did continually try to find ways to bring her photography into every aspect of her life. An early vintage print that captures an unusual full face image of Maier in her own unguarded moment.
