    c. 1887 Three Young Kiowa Women, by Lenny & Sawyers, Purcell, Ind. Terr., 1887. No inscription. Albumen cabinet card.

    All three wear the common, "daily" costume of cotton dress, with "aprons" of printed cloth in contrasting color to keep the dress skirts clean. Wool blankets cover the dresses. Each woman wears silver rings and earrings. A beaded strike-a-light bag, on the belt of the standing woman, hangs beside the head of the woman at lower right.

    Caddo Dancing Chiefs, by Lenny & Sawyers, Purcell, Ind. Terr, 1887. Title appears in the negative at lower left. Pencil inscription, verso: "Jim [John] Wilson, Dancing Chief. Inkanish, Chief [right]." Albumen cabinet card.

    Chief Wilson wears a beaded cap with buffalo horn tips, a fringed and beaded coat, beaded leather half-leggings and holds an eagle wing fan with long, beaded tabs. Inkanish holds a presentation pipe-tomahawk with silver trim on the handle. The Caddo are among the oldest residents of the Southern Plains, with art traditions that can be traced back more than a thousand years.
