'Dear John Harrison:

At last the exhibition is opening. The Five years passed quickly, and with some regret on my part ,the project is over.

"In the American West" opens at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas on September 14 and will continue there until November 17, 1985. Following that, the show will tour in the United States for two years and then go on to Europe and Japan. I sincerely hope that you will have the opportunity to see the exhibition.

Harry N. Abrams, Inc. is publishing the book of this work, In the American West, which will be released this September, concurrent with the opening of the exhibition . It should be available in bookstores at that time.

Enclosed is an engraver's proof of my portrait of you which appears in the book and the exhibition. Your complimentary copy of the book will follow within a month or two.

This letter is to keep you informed, and most of all to thank you once again for allowing me to photograph you. It was a privilege.

Sincerely,

Richard Avedon (signed in ink)'
