"My enjoyment of life began with my eyes. Even as a small child, curiosity possessed me. The visible and invisible was my world, my fairy tale. Now, after many decades, this world holds the same magic. Looking at everything as if for the first time reveals the commonplace to be utterly incredible. Each animate and inanimate part of the whole exists in a tight network, interdependent and timeless. I consider a minute insect, a mountain range and a human body of equal significance. As I see it life and death are two words for the same thing: all components of the living order. For this portfolio I have chosen discoveries, now transformed into images, which in their total simplicity were a revelation to me. They are an attempt to express my sense of wonder at the amazing and miraculous world in which I find myself and the mysteries which lie beyond. ...For me the act of photographing is a heightened emotional response- most akin to poetry and music. I am inspired by intense experiences that have touched my life. Each image results from a compelling impulse I cannot deny." - Ruth Bernhard
