Written by Albert Camus, the premiere Broadway production of Caligula opened to much anticipation at the 54th Street Theatre on February 16th , 1960. It was directed by Sidney Lumet and stared Kenneth Haigh, Colleen Dewhurst, Philip Bourneuf and Edward Binns. Caligula was Camus' earliest play and the first United States production of any of his works but it was a critical disappointment and closed after only 38 performances.
