    PROVENANCE:
    Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York;
    Current owner.

    In his series, Inherit the Dust, photographer Nick Brandt addresses the impact of man on the African landscape and the displacement of its wildlife. Brandt turned previously unreleased animal portraits into life-size panels, placing them within sites of urban development and wasteland. The human figures in these works appear oblivious to the ghost-like animals, which have been reduced to memories of the landscape they once roamed. The resulting photographs are at once visually compelling and unsettling, with a cinematic quality.
