Description
Karl Struss (American, 1886-1981)Interior, Union Station, Washington D.C., Night, circa 1915
Gelatin silver contact print
3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches (8.9 x 11.4 cm) (image/sheet)
Titled in ink, and with printed photographer credits, mount recto.
In 1914, Karl Struss took over the photography studio of his former teacher, Pictorialist master Clarence H. White at 5 West 31st Street, New York City, where he specialized in portraiture, advertising, and magazine illustration. Struss' gem-like contact print of Union Station, mounted to card bearing this address would have been intended, one supposes, as a business card of sorts to showcase recent work, which Struss would have distributed to potential clients.
