In this photograph the French artist Yves Klein, who was a pioneer in the evolution of performance art, envisions himself jumping in to the void or "le Vide" which he imagined as a serene state where one could become attuned to one's own insight devoid of worldly distractions. Shunk and Kender made the image by combining two negatives in to a "photomontage."
