This photograph was printed by Harry Shunk in Paris in 1991 or 1992 for a proposed deluxe edition of 50 copies of the first publication of Yves Klein's writing La Conférence de la Sorbonne, June 3, 1959. The edition was never realized although the text was published by Galerie Montaigne, Paris.

In this photograph the French artist Yves Klein, who was a pioneer in the evolution of performance art, envisions himself jumping in to the void or "le Vide" which he imagined as a serene state where one could become attuned to one's own insight devoid of worldly distractions. Shunk and Kender made the image by combining two negatives in to a "photomontage."
