This photograph was published in Vogue, November 1, 1947, in the article Round the world flight: 30 days, First log of Pan American's new global circle, where it was captioned Premier Khwaja Nazimuddin (centre); the Nawab of Dacca and his wife, the Nawab Begum; Mrs. Khwaja Nooruddin; in Nawab's Palace and with the following description:
"NOTES ON DACCA, EAST PAKISTAN: Although by plane Dacca is only an hour from Calcutta, and a side trip at that, this Eastern capital of the world's newest state, Pakistan, is a green, fresh, pioneering land that would like to change from primarily a jute-growing country to an industrial economy, helped by foreign investments. Its Premier is a Muslim of enormous power and straightforward charm, who was educated at Cambridge University and has put mostly Oxford and Cambridge men into his cabinet. Below, he is photographed with members of his intricately related family group in the ballroom of the Nawab's great white palace with its throne room, its medieval armour, its elephant skulls, and its prints of Napoleon and stags at bay. Until Pakistan, Premier Nazimuddin lived in Calcutta, as did Mrs. Nooruddin, whose husband, the Premier's brother-in-law, is the publisher of a persuasive Muslim newspaper, and a foremost Pakistan industrialist. Every day the delicate, chic, Nawab Begum goes to the English-Indian country club to swim, play tennis and bridge, to dance on Saturday nights. Hidden in a royal-blue purdah robe with a seductive blue chiffon face veil. she rides there in her own jeep."
The article describes Sir Khawaja Nazimuddin, (July 19, 1894-October 22, 1964) as a Premier of enormous power when in actuality, at the time of this portrait, he was Governor-General of Pakistan, a position that was largely ceremonial and executive power rested with the Prime Minister. Nazimuddin served as 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan after the assassination of Liaquat Ali Khan from 15 October 1951 to 1953.
