Heritage is pleased to offer a special selection of items from the estate of Architect William F. Cody (1916-1978). An influencial "Desert Modernist" architect, the year 2016 marks Cody's 100th birthday.

Born in Ohio, Cody (1916-1978) moved to LA in the 1920's and was encouraged creatively early on by his mother, an interior designer. He studied architecture at the University of Southern California (USC), and started his career working for famed San Diego architect Cliff May -the 'Father of the California Ranch House.' In the 1940's Cody opened his own practice and soon he had flourishing architectural offices in Santa Monica, Palm Springs and even Phoenix, Arizona. With clients like Frank Sinatra, soon Cody was completing mid-century modern jewels from California to Arizona, in Mexico and even swinging jazz and gangster-era Cuba. E. Stewart Williams noted: "...Cody brought 5th Avenue into the Desert."

Of great historical interest, and being seen publically for the first time, are a group of original Julius Shulman gelatin photos depicting some of Cody's most important and evocative mid-Century desert commissions. Also included for sale are personal objects from the private Cody collection, which give a unique peek into the rich family life of the tight-knit Cody Family.

Daughter Catherine (Cathy) Cody notes that the proceeds from Cody section at auction will fund the upcoming and much-anticipated Cody museum survey, "Fast Forward: The Architecture of William F. Cody" Q organized by the A+D Museum Los Angeles by the curatorial team of Jo Lauria, Catherine Cody, Dr. Emily Bills and Dr. Don Choi.
