PROVENANCE:
The artist;
Abe Frajndlich, acquired from the above, circa 1989.

LITERATURE:
S. Alexander et al., Elliott Erwitt: Home Around the World, Aperture, New York, 2016, pp. 179-180.

During the filming of "The Misfits" in 1960, a group of renowned Magnum photographers were granted exclusive access to the set, capturing behind-the-scenes moments of the movie's production, which included capturing the star-studded cast like Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Montgomery Clift, under the direction of John Huston; this provided a unique photographic record of the film's making, with notable Magnum photographers like Eve Arnold, Inge Morath, Elliott Erwitt, and Dennis Stock documenting the process. When a friend of mine, who was a dog lover, asked about a few of Elliott's images and went on to buy them, he generously gave me a few of his photographs, including this one by Erwitt, of this amazing group. We had connected and become friendly when I photographed him for LIFE in 1988. (Abe Frajndlich)
