LARGE AND FINE NORTH AMERICAN PALEO-INDIAN POINT

This Agate Basin-like spear point measures 4⅞-inch long and 1⅛ inches across its broadest part, somewhat towards the tip from the mid-point. It is thin, about ⅜ inch at the thickest point, fashioned from mottled, swirling gray Burlington chert, with tan and cream highlights. It is finely knapped, with very fine edge retouch, and basal grinding along the bottom one third of the length towards the small, slightly concave base.
Provenance: Ex. Hugh Ronemus Collection - acquired by trade with John Fox, Feb. 1999, who received it from the collection of Keith Glasscock, finder off the "Midland Man" site in 1953. It also bears a written-on accession number to a prior and unknown collection.
