Description
EXCEPTIONAL COLLECTION OF FIFTY-TWO MESOLITHIC GEM POINTS13,000-8,000 B.P.
Northern Sahara, southwest Algeria
The Sahara after the Ice Age was full of shallow lakes and savannahs which were rich in wildlife, and our ancestors lived by and hunted these shorelines and estuaries. That the people prospered well is evidenced by the many artifacts they left behind and this is a fine collection of 52 prehistoric masterpieces representing the many variations seen within point types, from Capsian Eiffel's to fox ears. Finely knapped from gemmy jasper, agate, flint and chalcedony, they are all richly patinated from the long exposure to the intense gamma rays of the relentless Saharan sun. These exceptional points range in size from 2¾ to 4 inches, mounted in a 12 x 12 x 2 inch hardwood frame glazed on both sides to allow illumination of the many beautiful patterns and colors within these desert gems.
