    Description

    WARD LOCKWOOD (1894-1963)
    Southwest No. 32 Woodland, 1955
    Oil on canvas
    30in. x 40in.
    Signed and dated lower right
    Titled verso

As seen in the later work of other Regionalist painters, Ward Lockwood's 1950's paintings exhibit the use of broad flat planes of color. While quite abstract, this painting still exhibits figural elements of a regional nature. The broad outlines of two Kachina dolls can be made out in this composition.

    Provenance: Estate of Ward Lockwood
    University of Kansas
