Description

TOM LOVELL (American, 1909-1997)
Back Comes the Bride, Ladies' Home Journal illustration, February 1944
Oil on canvas
41 x 31.5 in.
Signed lower right
This piece appeared as an illustration in Margaret Weymouth Jackson's short story.

Tom Lovell's exceptional talent for capturing mood through the use of light and color is apparent in this sensitive illustration, and his skill rivals that of two of his fine art inspirations, John Singer Sargent and Anders Zorn. Lovell was also highly influenced by the work of his peers, Donald Teague, Mead Schaeffer, and Dean Cornwell.

From the Estate of Charles Martignette.
