Condition Report*: We would like to thank Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc., New York for the below condition report: This work has not been recently restored. The condition is uneven. While the foreground and darker colors of the picture are in reasonably good condition, the distance and valley in the center of the work are in less good condition. There is an uneven quality to the paint layer in the large mountains on the left, which has given rise to some small retouches. There are similar rather numerous dots of retouching in the sky and valley. There is also a large consistent band of restoration beginning in the center of the valley running vertically to the center of the sky which measures about four inches wide at its broadest point.  Although this restoration is crudely applied, it does seem to address what is probably fairly extensive paint loss or even a structural damage. There is no question that this is an important picture, and much of it seems to be in very respectable condition despite the retouches. Proper considerate restoration would make a noticeable difference. Framed Dimensions 45 X 61 Inches
