Oil on canvas
25 x 30-3/4 inches (63.5 x 78.1 cm)
A painting of the same subject by François Lemoyne, with small variations such as a laurel wreath crowning Charity's head, was offered through Sotheby's, New York, January 30, 1998, lot 51A.
Condition Report*:
Glue-lined canvas.
Difficult to read under UV light due to old, heavy varnish. UV examination reveals a false 'F Boucher' fluoresces at lower left. Hints of strengthening in the sky are somewhat visible through the varnish. Lined canvas by Francis Leedham. Impressed stamp on stretcher "F. Leedham Liner" (1831-1857).
Fine craquelure. Surface dirt/yellowed varnish.
Black stencil on stretcher: 765 JR.
Charlk mark on strainer: 8-28-50
Framed under glass. Framed Dimensions 32 X 37 X 4.5 Inches
