Condition Report*: Lined canvas. Minor frame abrasion at upper edge. Slight yellowing to the varnish layer. Pronounced craquelure. Scattered hairline scratches and minor surface abrasions. A few scattered small dots of loss, apparently stabilized beneath the varnish layer. Mild surface dirt and dust. Not examined out of frame.
Under UV: heavily applied varnish fluoresces green unevenly. Brushy retouching at edges and to the background at left edge. At least two apparent campaigns of restoration to the figures, affecting the man's forehead, nose, and proper right cheek and chin, and also affecting the woman, primarily the proper left side of her face and neck. Additional small dots and dashes of retouching scattered throughout, primarily appearing to address craquelure.
