Rolla Sims Taylor was born in Galveston, Texas. He began painting in 1890 and moved to San Antonio the following year. He studied with Robert Onderdonk and José Arpa, and was later influenced by Julian Onderdonk. In addition to receiving a law degree from the Cuero Institute, Cuero, Texas, Taylor was a charter member of the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the Texas Fine Arts Association. He exhibited in the 1910 Cotton Carnival and other San Antonio competitions.

Condition Report*: Unlined canvas. Under UV exam, there appears to be two tiny 1/4 inch lines along the lower edge of the roof. A few small spots of retouching in the treeline along the upper center edge. Minor abrasions along the extreme edges of the canvas.
