Description
ROBERT WILLIAM WOOD (American, 1889-1979)Country Road with Bluebonnets and Cacti, circa pre-1940
Oil on canvas
25 x 29 inches (63.5 x 73.7 cm)
NOTE:
Two black and white photos of the artist accompany painting.
Robert Wood is among the most popular Texas landscape painters of his generation. He studied with Jose Arpa--who nurtured Wood's natural talent--and exhibited in the 1928 San Antonio Competitive. The loose brushwork, powerful color, and more spontaneous compositions found in Country Road with Bluebonnets and Cacti characterize Wood's his more Impressionistic paintings from the early 1930s. Moreover, the dimensions of this canvas indicate a pre-1940 date.
